City addresses water main break, electric outage

City crews tackled two utility issues last week, a break in a raw water main and an electric outage.

Raw water was off Thursday and Friday, affecting south and west parts of town, Cody City Manager Barry Cook said Monday.

A bird flew into an arrester on a transformer and caused the outage on Thursday, which lasted about a half day, he said.

“We’ve had some weird outages this year,” Cook noted.

Crews worked all Thursday on the raw water line and had it repaired in time to “energize” late that afternoon, but opted to wait until Friday in case the pressure caused another break, Cook said. The surge of water on Friday did cause another break about 10 yards from the first one.

Raw water service resumed Friday afternoon.

The water main is likely 50 or 60 years old and slated to be replaced, he added.
